Filipino Cultural Night
The annual Filipino Cultural Night (FCN) hosted by the Filipino American Student Association (FASA) gives an opportunity to the student body at Washington State University (WSU) to experience the Filipino culture through artistic performance, delicious food, and awareness education. The first FCN was held in 1994, shortly after FASA was established at WSU. Since then, it has grown into a large collaborative event among various multicultural student organizations.
During FCN, there are a wide variety of traditional performances and unique delicacies to educate and enlighten the audience with the beauty of the Filipino culture. This includes, but is not limited to, traditional Filipino dances performed by various organizations on campus, traditional musical performances by talented individuals, cultural presentations on the history of the Philippines as well as current events, and spoken word spotlight performances. The purpose behind such performances is to celebrate the Filipino heritage and to create a positive identity of Filipino-Americans on the WSU campus.
As a brand new concept this year, we will be doing various performances and skits to depict the evolution of the Philippines and Filipino culture through time. We need volunteers to help with food, decorations, setting up the venue, performing, etc. Here is a list of the events we will cover in the history of the Filipino people:
Legend of Islands - Telling the story of malakas and maganda, the first woman and man of the Philippines and the creation of the islands.
Pre Colonial PI - Sharing tales about the matriarchal society the Philippines once was.
Lapu Lapu - Depicting the story of Lapu Lapu and Magellan.
Colonization - Portraying the evolution of culture through hundreds of years of colonization.
Philippine-American War - Understanding the history of the Colt .45

WWII - Remembering Bataan and the struggle of Filipino veterans.
